Sleep at the edge of the wild
Lodges and camps chosen for the view, not the brochure
Each evening ends somewhere chosen for its view and its quiet — a lodge on the Simien rim, a camp above the cloud, a community guesthouse on a plateau where wolves hunt at dawn.
We do not choose where you sleep from a sales sheet. Every lodge we recommend has been stayed in by our team, and judged on a short list: what you see from the room, how the light arrives at both ends of the day, and how the staff treat guests when nobody is watching.
On the Simien escarpment that means waking to a drop of well over a thousand metres, with gelada troops grazing the grass outside and a fire lit before you return from the day's walk. On the Guassa Plateau it means a simple community lodge with no mains electricity, a cook we bring ourselves, and a sky with almost no light in it.
The common thread is restraint: comfort that supports the day rather than competing with the landscape for your attention.
