Day by Day
The itinerary, as it usually runs
A working draft rather than a fixed schedule — we move days around for weather, festivals and how you are feeling.
Day 1
South to Dinsho
The long drive south-east from Addis Ababa to the park headquarters at Dinsho, with mountain nyala grazing the moorland edges at dusk.
Day 2
The Sanetti Plateau
Up onto the Sanetti Plateau above 4,000 metres at dawn, when the Ethiopian wolves are most active, among giant lobelia and Afro-alpine lakes.
Day 3
The Harenna forest
Down the southern escarpment into the Harenna cloud forest, where wild coffee grows in the understorey and colobus monkeys move through the canopy.
Day 4
East to the lowlands
Across to Robe and on east into the dry lowlands, arriving near Sof Omar in the afternoon.
Day 5
Sof Omar Caves
A guided walk through the passages of the Weyib River to the Chamber of Columns, in a cave held sacred by both Muslims and followers of traditional Oromo religion.
Day 6
Back to Addis Ababa
A flight from Robe where schedules allow, or the drive back north to the capital.
