A twelve-hour layover is worth leaving the airport for
Bole is one of the busiest connecting hubs on the continent. Anyone with more than eight hours between flights has options.

Most of our layover guests arrive with no plan to leave the terminal. By hour twelve, a fair number are asking whether it's possible to push their onward flight back.
A solid Addis day tends to follow the same shape: high ground first for the skyline and the eucalyptus air, the National Museum before the tour groups arrive, then Mercato with someone who actually knows which alley leads where.
The single best part of the day is rarely a landmark. It's a coffee ceremony inside a family home in Shiro Meda — an hour under a corrugated roof, a bowl of popcorn, and conversation that outlasts the coffee.
On a layover, logistics matter more than sightseeing. A visa on arrival, a driver tracking your inbound flight in real time, a day room for a shower, and a firm return to the terminal three hours before departure — that covers almost everything that can go wrong.
