Day 1
West to the crater
About 155 kilometres west of Addis through farmland and eucalyptus, arriving at the rim of the caldera for a first look down at the lake. An easy afternoon walk along the rim, and the night in Ambo or Woliso.
Day 2 · Morning
Down to the lake & Cherkos
The descent on foot or on horseback with local guides, then a small boat to the island monastery of Cherkos, traditionally founded by Tekle Haymanot.
Day 2 · Afternoon
Hot springs & the road home
The walk on through the caldera to the hot springs and falls, lunch by the water, and the drive back to Addis Ababa by evening.
