Day by Day
The itinerary, as it usually runs
A working draft rather than a fixed schedule — we move days around for weather, festivals and how you are feeling.
Day 1
Fly east to Harar
A morning flight to Dire Dawa and the drive up into the highlands to Harar. A first walk to the Jugol wall and its gates, and the hyena feeding at dusk.
Day 2
Inside the walls
A full day in the old city with a Harari guide — the lanes and markets, a traditional Harari house, the mosques and shrines seen from the street, and the Rimbaud House with its photographs of Harar a century ago.
Day 3
Coffee country & Dire Dawa
Out into the eastern highlands to meet coffee growers, then down to Dire Dawa, the railway town that grew up on the line to Djibouti.
Day 4
Back to Addis Ababa
A morning in Dire Dawa's markets and a flight back to the capital.
